Health and Nutrition Services
Nutrition
SCCDC and all of its programs participate in the
Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). Depending on your
child's arrival and departure time, children 12 months to pre-school are
served breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack.
We hope to encourage a good start to a
lifetime of healthy eating habits. All meals and
snacks meet the guidelines set up by CACFP for portions and the type of
food being served. Menu items and suggestions from parents can
often be incorporated into the meal planning.
The children help at meal time
by setting and clearing the tables, food is served family style, and
parents are welcome to eat with their children on the days they
volunteer. Teacher notification is needed to ensure there is enough food
for children and adults.
Every consideration
is given if your child has a special dietary need for religious or
health reasons. Notify the Center Director or Manager with these
concerns.
Children are encouraged to
brush their teeth after each meal, toothbrushes are provided for each
child in the classroom.
Health
The Health Services at SCCDC focus on the
prevention and early diagnosis of suspected health problems. Parents
play a very important part in the health of their child by seeing that
physicals are completed by their doctor prior to the first
playgroup/classroom session. Parents can also ensure that
immunizations are completed and up-to-date, and that dental needs are
met.
Screenings and Assessments
SCCDC encourages your family's good health by
offering vision and hearing screenings, dental screenings, developmental
assessments for your child and by linking your family to health care
agencies when follow-up is required.
Attendance
and When to Keep
Your Child Home
Please DO NOT send your
child to program if he/she is:
- Showing signs of
illness-coughing, diarrhea, rash
- Running an oral temperature of
100 degrees or greater.
- Has been ill recently. Wait 24 hours before
retuning to school after he or she has had symptoms
Please notify your Family Educator, Teacher, or
The Center whenever your child will be absent from school or from a
scheduled home visit. After several unexplained absences, we may
have to offer your child's place in program to a child on the waiting
list.
Brothers
and Sisters
Siblings will also need to be
age-appropriately immunized in order to participate in the classroom
with their parents. Parents must have sibling's immunization
record with them or on file at the Center that they are visiting.
Call
your Center Director or manager with questions.
